Ok, As you are here it means, you or someone known to you is planning to travel by car from Bangalore to Shimla/Manali.

You are at right place. I am writing this blog after driving from Bangalore to Shimla with Family.

Best time to visit Shimla/Manali:

If you are planning with family and like the snowfall then best enjoyable time would be somewhere in-between February and March. At this time you would notice good snow fall and enjoy the trip

If you are planning with family and don’t want like snow but clear blue sky and also senior citizens are then try to go in-between September to October. This is the time where winters are starting and you might notice rain as well but most of the time at this time, no snow and clear sky.

If want some kind of adventure then go Dec to Jan. At this full snow, driving a car would tough task but it would fun.

Which Kind of car is safe to drive in Manali/Shimla:

It all depends upon individual, any car is fine just be confident. I have seen there most of the cars are small hatchback Maruti cars.

So any car works it just matters of time and weather.

However 4*4 is better option if you are planning to drive in snow because it gives control.

How many days needed to reach Shimla/Manali from Bangalore:

Typically 3 -4 days needed.

Day1: Bangalore to Adilabad (around 900KM)

Day2 : Adilabad to Agra (Around 1100 KM)

Day3: Agra to Shimla(around 600KM)

Day4: Shimla to Manali(around 250 KM)

You can stretch a bit and do Agra to Manali in one day but its hectic.

Where to Stay on the way:

Day 1 : Adilabad : Hotel Sai Panchwati:

very good hotel with covered car parking and good restaurant. cost is around 2.5k – 3.5 k

Day 2: Agra: Couple of hotels,.

I stayed at Hotel Taj Villas You can book any 3 star hotel, Just make sure you don’t go to restaurant in an auto or book hotel. Book hotel always online and don’t entertain any auto person. Also same thing for restaurant, just directly walk-in or go by your car to restaurant.

Day 3: Shimla: Lot of hotels, book any 3 star hotel

I stayed at HOTEL DE PARK SHIMLA, Its good and very good parking and food.

Day 4: Manali: Lot of hotels , book any 3 star hotel

Places to visit in Agra:

• Taj mahal
• Agra fort
• Local markets for shopping
• Tomb of Akbar

Places to visit in Shimla:

• Mall road
• The Ridge
• Jakhoo Hill and Temple
• Kalka-Shimla Railway
• Kufri – Must visit and try to stay in Fagu
• Christ Church Shimla
• Indian Institute of Advanced Study

Road condition and route:

Road is very good throughout and its Kashmir to Kanyakumari road.

Note: When i visited, road after Adilabad till Nagpur border was very bad, so be careful.
